A personalized guided tour around the ancient city of Neapolis, through its characteristic historic center, protected by UNESCO heritage. It is the largest in Europe, has preserved its original Greek and Roman urban grid perfectly and hosts many more later monuments.
Strolling through the main streets called “Decumani” we will see and visit some of the most important monuments and churches. It would be impossible to visit all of them in a short time, so make your choices…(I will obviously help you).
From Piazza del Gesù, with the baroque church of Gesuits, to the Church of S. Chiara, with its famous cloister, decorated with the finest ceramic tiles, up to the Aragonese square of S. Domenico Maggiore with the wonderful basilica.
You will also see the famous veiled Christ in the Sansevero Chapel, the most incredible monument of Naples. We will walk up to the main square of the center, Piazza S. Gaetano, that once was the Greek agora and Roman forum, between the Monumental complex of S. Lorenzo Maggiore and the Basilica of S. Paolo Maggiore. The square is close to the road S.Gregorio Armeno, famous for the craftmenship of Presepe, Neapolitan Nativity Scene.
You will have the opportunity to visit the “underground Naples”, with the ancient roman market and then climb up to the unique Cathedral of the city, the Duomo dell’Assunta, which today is dedicated to the cult of S. Gennaro
-> Ludoviguida recommends: have the lunch here and taste the original Neapolitan Pizza!
A guided tour from the New Castle, symbol of the city with its defensive towers, to the Egg Castle on the sea, seat of the ancient Partenope. We will admire the Teatro S. Carlo and the Galleria Umberto I, a fine example of Liberty Art. Walking through Piazza Trieste e Trento with its historic Caffè Gambrinus, you will be taken to Piazza del Plebiscito, between the Royal Palace and the Church of S. Francesco di Paola, through the old S.Lucia district, down to the sea front.
->Ludoviguida recommends: have a coffee at the charming Caffè Gambrinus!
It was one of the first museums to be built in Europe. It hosts the most important collection of works of art and archaeological remains in Italy. During the tour you will be guided back through time and feel as if you were part of history. You will see artefacts, statues and frescoes found in the cities buried by Vesuvius’ eruption (Pompeii and Herculaneum) and in other sites in Campania. Visit the Secret Cabinet. Take a look at the imposing statues from the Farnese Collection (a dynasty of Popes and Princes, who were among the first art collectors of Italy).
A visit to Pompeii, without seeing the National Museum, would be almost pointless, like looking into an empty shell.
->Ludoviguida recommends to join the Museum with a tour in one of the ruins around Vesuvius or with the historic center of Naples.
Ludoviguida takes you through the museum which used to be King Charles III of Bourbon’s hunting lodge and game park, the Royal Palace of Capodimonte. To the works of the great masters of painting, such as Botticelli, Raphael, Caravaggio and Masaccio. Or to admire the innovative works of contemporary art including Andy Warhol’s “Vesuvius”.
-> Ludoviguida recommends: art and devotion can be mixed, adding the visit to the Catacombs of S.Gennaro.
A unique National Museum, located on top of Vomero hill, in the silent Chartreuse, near the Castel S. Elmo. Experience the history and the city of Naples, through paintings, stuccoes, marbles and frescoes of Neapolitan school. Visit the Naval section and the “Presepe” (Nativity Scene) section, with the famous Presepe Cuciniello. Look over the city from above, enjoy its beautiful scenery.
-> Ludoviguida recommend: reach the Museum by using the new Art Metro Line 1 or by the characteristic Funicolare.
